It’s Wednesday night and I’m craving some Green Onion Dumplings. I don’t have the kind of energy to make them from scratch during the week. Should I go to the store and get some frozen ones? That’s a great idea, but then I remembered seeing a video on Instagram where someone used wonton (egg rolls) wrappers as a shortcut and it seemed super easy and I happen to have them in the fridge. The other main ingredient is green onions which I also have. These are all voices in my head by the way. So after consulting with myself, I decided I should give it a try. It’s super easy and quick. I also made my own dipping sauce that’s super yummy. Hubby approved, so here you go.
The wrappers I have are the large ones, if you can find them, that’s great. If not, small ones are okay, you will just get smaller dumplings and it will take more time to prep them.
Let’s cook some food!
Spread chopped green onions on a wonton wrapper, leave about an inch to the edges. Sprinkle lightly with some salt.
Brush the edges of the wrapper lightly with water.
Roll it up from one end to another.
Brush the seal side with water.
Roll again into a ball.
Gently flatten with a palm of your hand. Don’t worry if it breaks a little, if that happens just tap it with some water and try to pinch it back. No big deal though, it will still taste yummy. I promise.
Repeat the process and make the rest. Let them sit a little bit before frying them.
Make the dipping sauce. Combine vinegar, Golden Mountain Seasoning sauce (or light soy sauce), sugar and the chili in oil into a small serving bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.
Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan, medium heat. Fry the dumplings in hot vegetable oil until each side is golden brown.
Serve hot with the dipping sauce.
That’s it! Enjoy! Hope you give these Green Onion Dumplings a try. The recipe card and comment box is below.
