Sunday is definitely a fun day and I love having a small group of closed friends for brunch. Since it’s supposed to be a Sunday Funday brunch, we don’t want any stress whatsoever. I always plan my Sunday brunch ahead and do most of the work on Saturday, so you have little to do and can sleep in a little on Sunday. Everything is served buffet style and super casual. There are many times I even told our friends to come in PJs. To me, there’s no point of having a party or get together if you’re not going to enjoy it. The most important thing for me is to be able to be a guest at my own party.
Here’s my favorite Sunday brunch menu, tips and tricks I’d like to share with you. This will be good for a holiday brunch, too.
Cast Iron Sausage Egg Casserole
That’s it! 2 pretty things to make and you can get the rest from the grocery store or have your friends bring some of the items. Trust me, they’ll be happy to help. Things like champagne and orange juice to make mimosas
Here’s the game plan!
I’m listing the following items for the grocery list. This is for 4-6 people, so if you have more or less guests, adjust accordingly.
Grocery list (for 4-6 people):
- 1 dozen eggs (casserole, muffins)
- 1 small container (you’ll need 4 oz.) of milk (casserole)
- 1 bag of frozen hash brown potatoes (casserole)
- 1 lb. breakfast sausage like Jimmy Deans (casserole)
- 1 bag (you’ll nee 4 oz.)of sharp cheddar cheese (casserole)
- 1 small yellow onion (casserole)
- 1 red bell pepper (casserole)
- 4 ripe bananas (muffins)
- 1/2 walnuts (or pecans) (muffins)
- 1 pint of raspberries
- 1 pint of blueberries
- 1 pint of blackberries
- 1 pint of strawberries
- some flowers
Stuff you may already have in your pantry (hopefully…if not, add them to your shopping list):
- flour (muffins)
- baking soda (muffins)
- salt (muffins)
- seasoning salt (casserole)
- brown sugar (muffins)
- unsalted butter (muffins, the recipe needs 1 stick but you will need another one to spread on the muffins)
- vanilla extract (muffins)
Stuff you would want to ask guests to bring:
- champagne (mimosas)
- orange juice (mimosas)
2 days before the party (Friday):
- Print out all the recipes. Looking on-line is great, but it’s so much easier to have the paper version in front of you when you are making multiple things. You can also make notes if you decide to change things up a little. FYI: go to recipe section on my blog, you can print it out from there.
- Grocery shopping and wash/store your veggies and fruit in the fridge.
- Arrange flowers in a vase(s) and set it on the dining table.
1 day before the party (Saturday):
- Prepare the egg casserole to be ready to bake on Sunday. Basically, do all the steps except the baking part. Put the skillet in the fridge covered with foil or plastic wrap.
- Chop the nuts and store in a tight container so they’re ready to be added to the muffin tomorrow.
- Run the dish washer.
- Put the table cloth on top of the dining table.
- Set all the plates, forks, knifes, glasses on the counter.
- Before you go to bed, take out 2 sticks of butter and 2 eggs out from the fridge. You need them at room temp for the muffins. For the butter, 1 stick will be used to bake and 1 stick to spread on the muffins so put that one in a butter dish and set it on the dining table.
Tips
- I like to do the dishes and empty the dishwasher the day before to ensure everything is clean. It’s also convenient to load all the dirty dishes into the empty dish washer after the party.
- To protect my wooden dining table and for easy clean up, I like to put a table cloth on top. It’s also easy to clean up because all of you have to do is throwing it in the washer.
- Stack the plates and put forks and knifes in drinking glasses or large mugs and set them on the buffet station (mine is the kitchen island counter top) so people can help themselves.
1 hour before the party (Sunday):
- Take out the casserole from the fridge and set it on the counter.
- Make the muffins.
Tips
- I like to make the muffins first because they need to be baked at 375 ºF. Then, lower the temperature to 350 ºF for the casserole
- Set all the muffins on a cake stand. They somehow look a little more special that way. But if you don’t have one, serve them directly from the muffin pan.
0.5 hour before the party:
- Bake the casserole (don’t forget to lower the oven temperature to 350 ºF.)
- While waiting for the casserole, cut the fruit that needs to be cut and put them all in a large bowl. Sometimes, I buy them already cut, especially fruit like pineapple, so all have to do is to put them in a bowl with other fruit.
Tips
- Serve the casserole directly out of the skillet. Put a hand towel over the handle so your guests know it’s still hot!
- I like to set everything on the counter like a buffet style and my guests can help themselves.
Party time!
- Set up the champagne and orange juice that your guests bring on the counter so everyone can help themselves.
- Enjoy your Sunday funday brunch.
That’s it. I hope this gives you some good tips and tricks that will help you host a fun and stress-free Sunday Funday party. Don’t forget to let me know how things go for you and what things you may have done differently. I love hearing from you. XO
